Integrating Ontological and Linguistic Knowledge for Conceptual Information Extraction
نویسندگان
چکیده
Text understanding makes strong assumptions about the conceptualisation of the underlying knowledge domain. This mediates between the accomplishment of the specific task at the one hand and the knowledge expressed in the target text fragments at the other. However, building domain conceptualisations from scratch is a very complex and timeconsuming task. Traditionally, the re-use of available domain resources, although not constituting always the best, has been applied as an accurate and cost effective solution. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of exploiting sources of domain knowledge (e.g. a subject reference system) to build a linguistically motivated domain concept hierarchy. The limitation connected with the use of domain taxonomies as ontological resources will be firstly discussed in the specific light of IE, i.e. for supporting linguistic inference. We then define a method for integrating the taxonomical domain knowledge and a general-purpose lexical knowledge base, like WordNet. A case study, i.e. the integration of the MeSH, Medical Subject Headings, and WordNet, will be then presented as a proof of the effectiveness and accuracy of the overall approach.

Knowledge Extraction Using a Conceptual Information System (ExCIS)
It is a well known fact that the data mining process can generate thousands of patterns from data. Various measures exist for evaluating and ranking these discovered patterns but often they don’t consider user subjective interest. We propose an ontology-based datamining methodology called ExCIS (Extraction using a Conceptual Information System) for integrating expert prior knowledge in a data-m...

In computer-aided and Web-based learning a critical role is played by the methods and frameworks for Information Access. First of all, intelligent methods for retrieval and synthesis of information are crucial for making available timely and correct information during the training process. Moreover, the level of interaction between the target user and the retrieval subsystem constitutes an impo...
متن کاملOntological Knowledge and Language in Modelling Classical Architectonic Structures
This article will concern the specification of the conceptual and linguistic constraints for the construction of a knowledge base in classical architecture, an operation that involves the structuring of the concepts of the domain to which appropriate linguistic terms must be associated. Our approach will take into account models of conceptual dictionaries proposed in computational linguistics a...
متن کاملIdentifying Relations between Medical Concepts by Parsing UMLS® Definitions
To automatically analyse medical narratives, one needs linguistic and conceptual resources which support capturing of important information from texts and its representation in a structured way. Thus the conceptual structures encoding domain concepts and relations are crucial for the development of reliable and high-performance information extraction system. We present research work enabling au...
متن کاملArabOnto: experimenting a new distributional approach for building Arabic ontological resources
Ontologies are useful for modelling and retrieving knowledge in complex information systems. Ontology construction environments use statistical and linguistic information to extract knowledge from corpora. Within the great improvement in this field, there is a need to introduce the Arabic language in these environments. We present the ArabOnto architecture modelling the process of Arabic ontolo...
